AustraBlend News

AustraHort Pty Limited has created a new company, AustraBlend Pty Limited to assume responsibility for all matters relating to AustraBlend SuperSorb.

SuperSorb is the clay based, carbon rich water conserving  soil ameliorant, designed to significantly improve sandy, nutrient depleted soils which we are selling to SE Qld Strawberry growers, coastal municipal councils and which we are extensiively trialing in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and soon in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Talking about Saudi Arabia, I am absolutely over the moon about this for it has taken us nearly five years to reach agreement with the government in terms of Import Permit issuance.!!!!

I'm departing Brisbane on January 25th to the Middle East, confident that i will come home with some orders in the bag.

SuperSorb (Improved) - this product, as yet unnamed will be a blend of organic  clays, carbon and trace elements PLUS inorganic fertilizers in the form of an MAP or DAP type specification. With this product, we will appeal to a far wider market, the organics offering a level of water conservation and buffering to more efficiently carry the inorganic fertilizers - you could compare it to a Multi Vitamin as distinct from a single vitamin - Make sense?!

Hercules Strydom is available on 0400 228169 to answer any enquiry you may have for either product, we will welcome your call.

Organic Soil Conditioner

? Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) is essential to growing any plant material.  Sandy soils have a CEC varying from 1 to 15, whereas SuperSorb’s CEC is well above 60!  This one fact guarantees OPTIMUM plant performance.

? Additional to the CEC laden clays, are organic elements comprised of highly active carbon compost and other elements such as gypsum or dolomite, all contributing essential matter to healthy plant life.

? SuperSorb is of superlative value to plant life, providing a buffer against changes in soil reaction (pH), salt and nutrient imbalances.

? SuperSorb improves soil structure (crump structure) due to the introduction of high calcium derived swelling clays and appropriate organic components to degraded and poorly textured soil, increasing soil bio life to ward against harmful pathogen development.

? SuperSorb permits better aeration and exchange of soil gasses especially on degraded and compacted sandy soils (lower soil bulk density), less mechanical root growth resistance, therefore guaranteed permanent crop production increases.

? SuperSorb’s slow release plant available nutrients are available for longer periods because of the increased clay content of the soil.  Future nutrient application rates need to be adjusted to account for new soil potential yield levels.

APPLICATION RATES FOR GARDEN BEDS

AustraBlend®SuperSorb has been specifically developed to treat degraded and sandy soils to improve soil structure and texture.  It should be worked into existing soil to a depth of 300 mm to achieve the best outcome in the shortest possible time.

Apply 4L of AustraBlend®SuperSorb per square metre to garden beds, working to recommended soil depth.  Apart from natural deposits of N.P.K. in the clay, there are no other introduced nutrients thus fertilizers will continue to be used as required.

There are costs involved in improving depleted soils to a state of optimum capacity. These costs are more than offset by the savings to be gained in overall farm or garden efficiency, water conservation and the expectation of significant increases in production yields……….AustraBlend®SuperSorb will do this for you!

Strawberry Growers

Posted by Mike Farrar on 22 August 2012

Following our recent email in support of advertising in Simply Red. June edition, page 13, we are now pleased to advise growers that Hercules Strydom has returned from leave and has joined AustraHort as manager of the SuperSorb business and is ready to respond to growers questions in relation to soil management via the use of AustraBlend®SuperSorb.

Hercules brings to the equation a wealth of knowledge, experience and integrity and will materially add to our efforts in marketing this outstanding product, both in Australia and overseas.

KEY SOIL ISSUES

Soil conditons of SE QLD are predominantly in a state of imbalance due to naturally low CEC levels and excessive fertilizer applications, leading to an excess of soluble salts creating the potential for disease infestation, particularly at the time of runner planting.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION

AustraBlend®SuperSorb, comprised of selected Montmorillonite clays, first pasteurized compost and elements such as dolomite, gypsum or lime etc (dependant on soil profile) immediately addresses soil imbalances by increasing CEC to optimum levels, reducing the need for excessive fertilizer inputs, thus the risk of excessive build ups of damaging soluble salts.

Additional benefits contributed byt the selected clays are a very high level of water conservation attributed to the high swell factor of the clays (8 times volume), this fact bringing significant savings to water usage itself, then optimizing the benefits of applied fertilizers in that their molecules are maintained in the clays at the root zone and not lost to the leaching effect thus monetary saving coming from reduced application rates.

There are many other benefits, the virtual permanence of the clays so that they work year after year, significant increases to soil health and microbial activity, nutrient and moisture holding capacity, soil buffering, the list goes on.....
